Is your P.B.D. ready?

I’m a strong believer in building your own personal brand. In fact, to do so requires more than just your intellectual capital. We’ve discussed the many steps you can take that will lead you to your own success. Now there’s another I’d like to introduce. This one will require you to do some true analyzing, but it will be worth it in the long run. It’s time for you to put together your P.B.D. – your Personal Board of Directors.

I know it’s not a term we usually use, and I actually meditated on it a while after reading a book that said something similar. The idea behind having a Personal Board of Directors is that you will have a very specific and select group of people around you that you can be honest with. They, in turn, will be honest with you. That honesty is what you can leverage as you keep moving forward in owning your leadership space in this world.  All of these people are guides – they’ll provide you with the insights you need to know from the perspective of the role you have bestowed upon them, but they won’t tell you what to do. So what does this P.B.D. consist of?

Media and Marketing Maven – This is the social media and marketing guru that will help you better flesh out your marketing ideas. Whatever you don’t know or may not be into as of yet, they will be.

Sales Savant – Utilize this member in helping you to think through your sales strategy and techniques. You may already be good at closing sales, this person should be better.

Cash Commando – Whether your C.P.A. or another financial genius, their job isn’t to tell you about investments; but, rather, how to make sure your business’ cash flow stays flowing and that you’re investing wisely in your business.

Gracious Grounder – This may be your best friend of all time or the person that has been there and supported you no matter what. They are the ones that will help you stay true to yourself and your values. Use them wisely when you have major decisions that could challenge everything you personally believe in.

Partnership Promoter – It’s important to understand how you can build and maintain relationships with through networking and with clients. This person will be your “wing man” in helping you to navigate the waters of relationship-building smoothly an effortlessly.

Coaching Champion – This is a professional skilled in the practice of coaching. Like me. The best advice I ever received about hiring my first professional coach was “Hire the best coach you can afford”.  Coaching Champions support you to move forward, they keep you accountable and they allow you to discover your own path through active listening and asking powerful questions. Invest in your future success by hiring a professional coach you trust.

As you can see, this is just a partial list of those you can have on your personal board of directors. The point is that you will want to make sure you are surrounding yourself with those who love and support you, but won’t hesitate to be brutally honest. They understand and see your vision of yourself. They get where you are and where you’re going. They see the natural leader you are inside and will continue to prove to be.

Having the right P.B.D. will only benefit you and allow you to soar to greater heights. Get your personal board of directors together and go fly!

Love to see you there, RSVP details are below. Have a great weekend one and all and if you are watching the Rugby World Cup in England, go the All Blacks!
