Tricks of the Trade

Tricks of the Trade

“The leader is the person who brings a little magic to the moment.” – Denise Morrison

What do you think of the new blog look? A big shout out to Adam Patterson who is the photographer of my new blog image. He’s Irish, a bit quirky and is super talented, check him out HERE. His videography skills are pretty awesome too, click HERE.

Last week you didn’t receive my Friday blog because we were working on the template and adding some magic to the mix. Well actually Jessie does all the work. Meet Jessie my personal Contemporary Virtual Assistant, CVA for short. She rocks!

Tricks of the Trade 2

Nothing happens without teamwork and WE make a great team. Jessie is based in Wyoming. For me it doesn’t matter where in the world Jessie is. The key is working with someone who understands your business, is passionate about what you do and is super organised.

I started noticing that my coach at the time who was based in London, always seemed so organised and in control. In one of our coaching sessions I asked her if she would mind sharing with me a few “Tricks of the trade” and that’s when she introduced me to her secret weapon: a VA or Virtual Assistant!

Virtual Assistants are an amazing resource for Small Medium Enterprises. They know the Tricks of the Trade and are an invaluable resource. After our debrief last week we’ve decided that my blog will come out every two weeks from this week unless I’ve got something super exciting to post. It also helps me to be more organised and efficient. Entrepreneurs reading this will know how efficiency and being organised is so valuable when you are growing from small to medium to enterprise.

I read a great article from EHS today called Learning a Magician’s Tricks of the Trade Can Give Your Career the Magic Touch that stated, “You see, the real magic is not in the illusion itself, but rather in the process that the magician follows to make it all possible.”

And this is what keeps me so focused on supporting more indigenous women to learn the art and science of coaching. The more we can support and develop others to pay attention to the experience and the process versus the result, the more open we are to learning and seeing new perspectives in every part of our life. RISE coaching and leadership programme for 100,000 indigenous women is what I jump out of bed for every morning. It’s the global experience along the way and the global minds you get to tap into that keeps me energised and moving forward.

As J.A. Rodriguez says in the article, it’s all about the common cause. The magician brings together a diverse group of people “to do what they all wanted him to do, to show them what they all wanted to see and to deliver what they all expected would be delivered.”

The magician or coach provides a reason for the diverse group to gather to see the magic happen and be a part of it. There are expectations on both sides – for what the audience (clients/participants) expects and what the magician (coach) expects as well. Without the two working together cohesively, the trick simply would not work. The audience believes in the magician, and the magician believes In the audience. A reciprocal relationship built on clear outcomes as coaches and clients is healthy.

Being able to co-create and support others to work towards goals and common purpose in today’s world is imperative for a successful leader, coach or magician for that matter. When we pay attention to the learning experience it really doesn’t matter about the result. The result is finite the learning is infinite when you approach each situation with a learning and growth mindset.

The result will be the result, if you feel you have done yourself proud and stayed true to what you stand for and what you believe in you have already won. On the 12th of October I will be amongst winners from across the world. As a finalist for the 2016 Westpac Women of Influence Awards I feel like I have already won because of the caliber of women in our Global category. My good friends Katherine Corich and Melissa Clark-Reynolds are both Global category finalists it’s going to be a great night, See all the amazing finalists HERE.

Be like the magician. “Add a bit of magic to something that you may have forgotten about”, find out the tricks of your trade by asking someone who does it well. What’s their secret to success? Jessie is one of my secrets to success. A big thank you Jessie from me to you. Have a wonderful weekend wherever you are in the world. “we RISE together”.
